Everyday, millions of people scroll through their Instagram feeds. They’ll like a friend's picture, comment on another one and continue to scroll. The biggest question for brands is how do you get your content in front of these users? How do you make them stop scrolling and ingest your content? We have found proven success with these 3 tips, and we wanted to share them with you, so that you can boost your engagement on Instagram.
Hashtags IN the original copy.
Instagram and hashtags go hand in hand like two peas in a pod. Over the years there have been many different strategies on hashtags, but recently Instagram themselves released valuable information. They confirmed that the best way to make hashtags successful is to include them in the original post rather than putting them in the comments.
With hashtags, everyone asks what the “best” number of hashtags is to use? What we have found is that between 5-7 is a good bet. Not sure what hashtags will be best? Select hashtags that have a large audience attached to them and that pertain to your post, so your content relates to the hashtags.

Engage Users With Social Media Services
Content creation, monitoring, and interacting with customers is the cornerstone of our full-service social media marketing solution.
If you’ve been on Instagram lately, you might have noticed that a lot of users are posting more carousel posts. The reason for this is if you’re scrolling through Instagram, you might only look at the first slide of a carousel and not engage with the image/video, and when you’re done scrolling, you close out of the app. The next time you open it, your same post will be there, but with the next slide of your carousel, giving another opportunity for engagement. Many accounts have utilized this with a video-photo format.
For example, let’s say I run social for a small restaurant, and we want to share our special for the day. I would take a video of the chef cooking, and I would take a picture of the meal when plated. I would then make a carousel post on Instagram with the video first and the photo second. In the caption I would mention something about the delicious special for the day and add relevant, local hashtags.
Try that tip out the next time you’re posting and watch engagement increase due to more views on that specific post!
Prompt response time
Did someone leave a comment on your post and you never responded? That more than likely hurt your engagement rate for that post and didn't get shared to a larger audience. Responding to all of your comments is very important! The more comments that are on your post, Instagram will consider your post valuable in terms of content and interesting to others. So your post will be pushed to the top of the feed of your followers.
A way to try and increase comments on your posts is by asking simple questions in your captions that allow users to respond in the comments. Another great way is by asking users to tag friends in the comments, so that more individuals will see that specific post.
Besides the fact that responding quickly helps engagement rates, it also just shows that you’re eager to help out your customers and ready to assist them in any way needed. As we know, business is won in the comments!
